Remove Background from Image Free — Browser-Based, No Upload

· 5 min read

Cut out subjects from photos and export transparent PNGs without sending your image to a server.

Background removal used to be a Photoshop-only skill. Today, any modern browser can do it in under a second using on-device machine learning — no server, no signup, no watermark on the result.

How browser background removal works

A small segmentation model runs locally in your tab to predict which pixels belong to the foreground subject. The result is a transparent PNG you can paste over any background. The model downloads once and caches; subsequent removals are instant.

When it works brilliantly

  • Product shots on simple backgrounds — perfect cut-outs every time.
  • Headshots and portraits — hair edges are usually clean.
  • Pets and animals — works well on contrasting backgrounds.
  • Logos photographed on paper or fabric.

When you may need touch-ups

  • Wispy hair against a busy background — manual refinement helps.
  • Glass and transparent objects — segmentation models struggle with translucency.
  • Very low-contrast subjects — increase contrast before removing.

After removal

Export as PNG to preserve transparency. If you need a JPG, drop the cut-out onto a solid color first. To slim the file before uploading anywhere, run the PNG through the Image Compressor — even transparent PNGs can be reduced by 50%+ with smart palette optimisation.
